What type of wood is best for an outdoor kitchen?
Solid wood seems like a great choice for outdoors, but often isn't. Moisture, sun and temperature changes can cause it to warp, crack or mold - and you don't want that in an outdoor kitchen that is meant to last for years.
That's why we work with Okoumé and Thermically modified wood. These materials are dimensionally stable, resistant to moisture and extremely durable.
We combine this strong foundation with a veneer of a wood species of your choice. So you get the warm, natural look of real wood, but with the durability and quality you need outdoors. A clever combination of technology and craftsmanship - exactly as you would expect from Houtdoor.
In addition, we also work with Hardwood. Hardwood is naturally durable and highly resistant to moisture and weathering, but it is less suitable outdoors than e.g. Okoumé. Therefore, we recommend placing Hardwood under a roof or shelter for longer life.

Tricoya Thermally Modified Wood wordt gezien als een revolutionaire houtsoort voor buitentoepassingen. Het is extreem duurzaam, zeer stabiel en ongevoelig voor vocht, waardoor het niet kromtrekt of uitzet. Door een speciale acetylatiebehandeling is het bestand tegen rotten, schimmels en insecten, en behoudt het zijn vorm zelfs in de meest veeleisende omstandigheden. Het materiaal heeft een lange levensduur, vraagt weinig onderhoud en is bovendien milieuvriendelijk.
Ayous Thermisch Gemodificeerd Hout is een lichte en veelzijdige houtsoort die vaak wordt gekozen voor buitentoepassingen na behandeling. Het hout is van nature zacht en licht van gewicht, waardoor het eenvoudig te bewerken is. Na thermische modificatie wordt Ayous duurzaam, stabiel en goed bestand tegen vocht en schimmels. Het heeft een egale structuur, werkt nauwelijks en neemt afwerkingen zoals verf of olie goed op. Dankzij deze eigenschappen is Ayous een aantrekkelijke keuze voor wie een onderhoudsarme en moderne uitstraling zoekt voor langdurig buitengebruik.
Fraké Thermisch Gemodificeerd Hout , ook wel Limba genoemd, is een tropische houtsoort die steeds vaker wordt toegepast voor buitengebruik. Het hout heeft een fraaie, natuurlijke tekening en een warme uitstraling, wat het bijzonder geschikt maakt voor gevelbekleding en buitenmeubilair. Na thermische modificatie wordt Fraké zeer duurzaam, vormstabiel en bestand tegen schimmels en insecten. Het vergrijst mooi onder invloed van weer en wind, zonder dat dit afbreuk doet aan de kwaliteit. Met weinig onderhoud en een lange levensduur is Fraké een stijlvolle en betrouwbare keuze voor duurzaam buitengebruik.
Accoya Thermisch Gemodificeerd Hout is een gemodificeerd naaldhout dat bekendstaat om zijn uitzonderlijke duurzaamheid en stabiliteit. Door een speciale acetylatiebehandeling is het hout extreem bestand tegen vocht, schimmels en insecten, waardoor het nauwelijks krimpt of uitzet. Het heeft een lange levensduur en behoort tot de hoogste duurzaamheidsklasse, zelfs bij intensief buitengebruik. Accoya behoudt zijn vorm en sterkte jarenlang en vergrijst op een mooie, natuurlijke manier indien onbehandeld. Dankzij deze unieke eigenschappen is Accoya een van de meest betrouwbare en onderhoudsarme keuzes voor duurzaam buitengebruik.
Oak Okoumé combineert het beste van twee werelden: de robuustheid en duurzaamheid van eiken met het lichte gewicht en de bewerkbaarheid van Okoumé. In vergelijking met massief eiken is het een stuk lichter en makkelijker te hanteren, terwijl het toch veel van de sterkte en slijtvastheid behoudt. Vergeleken met puur Okoumé is het stabieler en beter bestand tegen vocht, schimmels en insecten, waardoor het geschikter is voor langdurig buitengebruik. Na behandeling behoudt het zijn kwaliteit jarenlang, neemt het afwerkingen zoals verf of olie mooi op en biedt het creatieve mogelijkheden voor zowel functionele als esthetische toepassingen.
Okoumé is een lichtgewicht tropische houtsoort die bekendstaat om zijn gladde, gelijkmatige structuur en uitstekende bewerkbaarheid. Het hout is zacht, waardoor het gemakkelijk te zagen, schuren en vormen is, en neemt afwerkingen zoals verf en lak goed op. Hoewel Okoumé van nature minder duurzaam is dan sommige hardhoutsoorten, kan het na impregnatie of thermische behandeling uitstekend worden ingezet voor buitentoepassingen, omdat het dan beter bestand is tegen vocht, schimmels en insecten. Dankzij zijn lichte gewicht, elegante uitstraling en veelzijdigheid is Okoumé een populaire keuze voor meubels, gevels, scheepsbouw en andere constructies waar een combinatie van esthetiek en functionaliteit gewenst is.
Western Red Cedar is een luxe houtsoort die bekendstaat om zijn warme, roodbruine kleur en fijne nerf. Het hout is van nature licht, duurzaam en goed bestand tegen vocht, schimmels en insecten, waardoor het zeer geschikt is voor buitentoepassingen. Dankzij zijn lage dichtheid is Western Red Cedar eenvoudig te bewerken en neemt het afwerkingen zoals olie en beits goed op, waardoor zowel esthetische als beschermende lagen gemakkelijk kunnen worden aangebracht. Het hout vergrijst op een natuurlijke manier tot een zachte zilvergrijze tint, terwijl het structureel sterk en stabiel blijft. Vanwege de natuurlijke eigenschappen van het hout is het aan te raden Western Red Cedar bij voorkeur onder een overkapping of beschutte plek te plaatsen voor een langere levensduur.
Oak is een klassieke en robuuste houtsoort die bekendstaat om zijn sterkte, slijtvastheid en duurzaamheid. Het hout heeft een karakteristieke nerf en warme kleur, waardoor het zowel functioneel als esthetisch aantrekkelijk is. Eiken ziet er prachtig uit na een afwerking met olie of beits, en ontwikkelt in de loop der jaren een mooie, natuurlijke patina. Daarnaast is eikenhout zeer bestand tegen slijtage en mechanische belasting, waardoor het jarenlang mee kan gaan. Om zijn kwaliteit en levensduur te behouden, kan eikenhout echter het beste alleen onder een overkapping worden geplaatst. Wil je wel Eikenhout maar onder de open lucht, kies dan voor Eiken Okoumé.
